AGM Atomic Force Microscopy Laboratory

The Aqueous Geochemistry and Mineralogy Group in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Washington University, with support from the McDonnell Center for the Space Science, operates an Agilent Technologies model 5500 Atomic Force Microscope (AFM).  The instrument is capable of collecting images in both air and water in both contact and AC modes.

Agilent 5500 AFM

The AFM is available for use at a rate of $30/hour for Washington University users and $40/hour for external users.  Users must supply their own AFM probes.  Veeco NP series contact mode AFM probes, which are also useful for AC mode imaging in water, are available in the AFM laboratory for $17.50 per probe.

Contact Prof. Jeff Catalano (314-935-6015; catalano@wustl.edu) to arrange to use the instrument.

Information on instrument usage can be found here.
